Your first assignment is just to help you get setup with the course, and get in the groove of our weekly assignments. Remember that homework is assigned each Tuesday, and due each Tuesday at 8:29am, i.e., one hour before lecture starts. (Note that 8:29 am is not midnight! 🤪)
As outlined on the course webpage, you'll need to get setup with the course infrastructure. In particular:
Make an account on the CMU Math Discourse Server, and find the message board for our course (listed as f2023-387). You will need to login using your AndrewID in order to post. To complete this part of the assignment you must also post your favorite formula! You'll find a thread already made for this purpose.
Make an account on the course Discord (linked here) for real-time conversations. To complete this part of the assignment you must also post a message in the general channel with one "fun fact" about yourself.
(Late-add only:) If you are adding the course late, you will also need to add yourself to the course mailing list.
The last part of your assignment is to fill out this Google form:
Note that you must be logged in via your CMU Google account.
Follow the instructions at the start of this notebook (download) and get yourself setup with Python, and run the notebook. You can just import the notebook into Google Colab; or you can install Python and the required libraries on your local machine (instructions are in the notebook). Either way, ensure the notebook runs without any error messages. (We will walk through what it does in class, so don't worry about understanding the content just yet.)
